The term somatotype (ecto, meso, endo) was first coined in the 1940s by William Sheldon to categorize individuals by their body size and shape to indicate human behaviours.

It does not, however, indicate your ability to lose fat or gain muscle. There has been claims that you should train and eat differently according to your somatotype. NOPEπŸ™…πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ.

Somatotypes are just a way to describe your current body size and shape. This is highly determined by your genes, lifestyle, and activity level. It does not affect the mechanism of how your body lose/gain fat or lose/gain muscle.

Calorie balance works the same with everyone. If you have an inactive lifestyle with an excessive eating habit, it’s highly likely you would be categorized as an endomorph.

An endomorph is able to lose fat the same way an ectomorph can. An ectomorph is able to gain muscle the same way a mesomorph can. Maybe at different rates, but the mechanism still works the same. You have the ability to change your own body shape and size with proper training and nutrition.

So don’t be discouraged if you’re an ectomorph looking to build muscle, or an endomorph looking to lose fat. You don’t need some special way to train or diet just because of how you look. It all works the same. Just train hard and eat right, then it’s morphin time πŸ‘ŠπŸ».
